The Companion Animal Welfare Education Centre (CAWEC) is located at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the UAB has recently been chosen as one of the ten best European faculties on Veterinary Medicine.
The main aim of CAWEC is to provide education in the field of companion animals’ behaviour and welfare to veterinarians, pet owners, VTAs (Veterinary Technician Assistants), dog trainers and other professionals. The academic training offered by CAWEC has two qualities: it is based on scientific evidence and, at the same time, has an eminently applied nature. CAWEC develops its educational task through courses, seminars and the publication of documents of both scientific and informational nature.
Furthermore, CAWEC works along with companies in the area of companion animals, and offers applied research on any field related to the behaviour and welfare of companion animals, as well as educational programs designed together with companies and aimed both at personnel and clients. CAWEC is part of the Animal Welfare Group of the UAB’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, which is formed by veterinarians and other professionals with acknowledged expertise in animal welfare, including companion animals, farm animals and zoo animals.
